Thanks all for the GREAT entries. As usual we had a hard time choosing and debating who is the best. Since we only have ONE pack of Lucy Folch's paper to give away, the tough decision for the FINAL ONE had to be made one way or the other.

So ... drum roll please, for this deserving winner!!!

We are captivated with (1) the combination of two very contrasting Tinkering Ink PP used here and (2) the combination of vintage stuff { did you see the vinyl record there?!? whoa! } and modern designs - I guess this goes to proof that there's NO rules in scrapbooking and when it comes to creativity, there's no boundaries.

Creative use of vintage such as vinyl records set against colours representing the height of the vinyl era!

The other thing that caused squeals of delight is how every single bit of the PP had been used! - even the paper's model/title: al fresco giardino (garden) in the journaling.

Scrap-n-Crop's Featured Artist - Sabrina Donnet has included a sketch and in her personal blog (french, unfortunately) has "challenged" us to put our creativity to the limits by coming up with our own interpretation based on her sketch (below).

The rules for this can't be simpler:

It never seizes to amaze me and to be honoured to be surrounded by so many wonderful women.

Women with BIG hearts.
Women that are sooooo terrible creative, they leave me speechless.
Women with drive, passion and amazing sense of entrepreneurship.

Women who truly stretch the meaning of life-balance. Those that are able to juggle a professional life, family, hobbies and yet still find the time and a place in their hearts to do good.

And Scrap-n-Crop.com is honouring WOMEN today { when it isn't even International Women's Day! But why wait for a formalised day when we can do it everyday? }

So today, as we sat around our brand new Scrap.Abode getting things together, we decided to support all great women that has crossed our paths and made a difference to us, our special children, our families, scrapbooking, our love, our lives ... by featuring some tid-bits about them; bits that normally an acquaintance would never know about. Bits that makes them special. Bits that ticks. Bits that makes them glow.

Happy Thanksgiving!

here's what Sonja McLean, Scrap-n-Crop's PSA 2008 winner said about her prizes in her blog:

{quote} There are so many things to be thankful for. We took some time, this past weekend, to reflect on family, friends, hobbies and work...all the things that bring meaning, depth and happiness to our lives.

Driving back from the pumpkin patch, I asked my family what they are thankful for. My 5-year old is thankful for ice cream with candy canes crushed on top. My 3-year old is thankful for "play crafts" (jeez...I wonder where she gets that from *LOL*). My hubby is thankful for his job and his "freaks" (kids). Me, I'm thankful for my hubby...he really is my best friend.

Thanksgiving at my MIL/FIL's household is always wonderful. My MIL decorates the house and puts on an amazing spread. I love Thanksgiving at her house...it sets the tone for the season ahead.

This past week was busy, but full of knocks at the door. First, it was my prize from Project ScrapAway. OMG...I'm so overwhelmed with gratitude! Thank-you so much Scrap n' Crop. The following three boxes were materials for my Ultimate Card Class on Sunday. I can hardly wait! Something about making Christmas cards that gets me giddy.

SONJA MCLEAN (My vote for winner*) Sonja's projects coordinated beautifully with each one having special meaning and eye-catching design. I love how Sonja used multiple techniques on each project and kept the overall design sweet and "girlie" for her daughter's birthday.

SHARMAINE KRUIJVER What I loved about Sharmaine's "Home" projects is that she chose to alter items to display throughout her home. The recycled frame was a fantastic idea and will make a darling statement in her home. She used various items in her projects that are inspiring and shows you can scrap out of the box!

RACHEL CLARK Happy Birthday Rachel! The projects for Rachel's birthday were stunning. The beautiful red papers she chose gave her projects depth and beauty. From the invitation to the layout, I can see that every project was created with care and a special touch. I am sure that Rachel's birthday guests felt very special enjoying her birthday.

Here are some general comments:

I must say that it is always a humbling experience to judge something that is "creativity" based. There is no right or wrong, better or worse. If you get that feeling of excitement in the pit of your stomach once you have completed a project, then you are doing it the right way!

Here are some things I loved about each set of projects:

Rachel
I loved her choice of theme, truly. It was really a creative idea and the projects were stunning (I hope one of those cupcakes pictured has my name on it)! "The Bucket List" idea was cute and well executed. She also gets points because I too love to scrap with Red.

Sharmaine
What a fun and funky style!! Made me happy just looking at everything. I liked the home theme- so much you could do with that. I loved the short story mini album!! I always say that in 50 years they can look at a photo and see that it was Christmas and they got a new bike, but it's this type of journaling (as in the mini book idea) that will be cherished and is the best gift you can give!

Sonja
I liked Sonja's theme – we have all been there, done that! Trying to come up with all of the pieces and parts that go into a first birthday is a challenge. I loved the idea of having everything coordinate (kinda like a wedding) – very clever! All of this AND the projects were beautiful and well designed. The canvas was my fav - what a precious gift!

along with infrastructure and economic development, came a deeper understanding of embracing diversity and a one nation one race called Malaysia and Malaysian respectively

as I drive to work, frustrated with the 3 hour traffic jams, I can't ignore the strings that pulls at my heart, the swelling of my eyes and the unexplainable pride and sense of belonging I have as I watch the parade rehearsals.

How did you start scrapbooking? Don't actually remember! I was putting my photos into black page albums years ago and also into some albums I made, but proper scrapbooking just seemed to happen along side my card marking. I suppose I started seriously doing scrapbooks in 2002/2003.

My ONE addiction in life? I probably have more than one ... but the one that comes to mind first is Chocolate! I eat chocolate every day!

I wish I was ... (which scrapbook celebrity) Nope ... happy with being just me! I admire a lot though, but wouldn't want to be them.

Greatest Scrapbook Accomplishment Actually getting photos scrapped and into albums! :-) Card making took up a lot of time for a few years (and babies) and it's only this year that I have gotten back into it big time. Being part of Project Scrap Away has been an awesome opportunity too :-) Very inspiring for me.

What do you wish to achieve out of scrapbooking? Albums for my kids to look back on and for them to be pleased by what I've recorded ... it's not just about making a pretty page with the photos, it's about the journaling too.

Your favourite scrapbook style? Depends on my mood! I am not actually sure I have a style, but I don't like white space I know that! I prefer coloured cardstock with a little patterned paper.

Who / What do you normally scrap about? Our children and family happenings.

How do you scrap? Standing Up? Sitting down? In A Mess? Sitting down in a mess :-)

When and how often do you scrap? Since I've got back into scrapping this year I have scrapped every day and a lot of nights too! :-)

Information or inspiration?
If it's information then from my muddly brain.
If it's inspiration then it's usually from the photos I've got to scrap. I look at them and then sort through my papers and go from there. If I am really in a rut then I will flick through some scrapbook magazines. Sometimes just an idea like an embellishment will trigger something and I'll go "Oh yeah, I can do that, but use this, and that paper" and before I know it, it's done :-)

Don't have a particular favourite, but I do like Bazzill cardstock.

How did you start scrapbooking? Always admired a friends work then in Aug 2005 I read a magazine and then thought Hey I can do that… the rest is history lol

And finally, the grand finale...the finale we have all been waiting for! After a grueling 12 weeks on Project Scrap-away, only 3 finalists are left: Sonja, Rachel and Sharmaine.

It all boils down to this! So for the final 2 weeks, contestants will be given 2 weeks to complete a collection of 5 projects...These will be on a thematic basis, for eg: If you were to do a wedding theme, using co-ordinating items, you can come up with an invitation card, party favours, a table centerpiece, a layout and perhaps a gift for the bride. At the end of this 2 weeks, we have a bevvy of celebrity scrapbookers to pick the OVERALL winner for PROJECT SCRAP-AWAY!!!

And finally...the last challenge before the finale...here goes:

You know those items in your closet that you will never get rid of? The things that you think you shouldn't toss out because they hold some sort of sentimental value? Your favorite little black dress, that notebook you had when you were in school, that expensive one-time splurge handbag, oh and those scrap stuff you had to have then?

Well, this challenge is all about renewing the OLD. Making them NEW again...I know we have many scrapper-hoarders (term courtesy of one of our scrapper-hoarders at SnC) here! Our collection is made up of all those scrapbooking supplies that we just can't (or at least wouldn't want to) live without. So bring them out now and use them in the latest scrapbook trends!!!

We can't wait to see you dig up the old!

Sad to say, Jessy is pulling out for health reasons and she will also be away next week. We regret that it has to happen this way as Jessy has also been one of the hot favourites! BUT all is not lost...I am sure we'll see more of Jessy work somehow!

HI all...I am blogging this a little earlier this week as I will have to run to 3 meetings back to back shortly. As the contest progess, I can really really see talent from everyone and they managed to produce astonishing results, week after week! However, as judging time comes, sad to say, someone has to go...

As the famous "Project Runway" quote goes:

"As in fashion one day you are in and one day you are out!"

Challenge 9 is to see how far our contestants have come in terms of scrapbooking, how they have improved over the years. So we got them to dig out their old layouts and see if they were to do that LO today, how they would have done it! And as we can see, they have all improved greatly and come this far.

Remember your first LOs? The remaining contestants are to dig around for one of their very first layouts (no cheating!!!) and then "re-update" or "re-do" the LO again now that they have been scrapping for awhile, I reckon. One of the reasons why I started scrapping was because I was told my son would not live long. I have thus journaled everything about him into my scrapbook, and needless to say the whole process was very therapautic for me! I wish to therefore highlight, that scrapbooking isn't all about noting down the happy things, it is more powerful when we journal life's downs rather than only the ups.

So for this Challenge 7, you are required to create a LO on some tragedy or ugly event that has happened in your life. LOs can be of any size.

Teresa has returned with comments on all entries. She has given us her decision on who should be out but as she is loving everyone's creations she has not come back with who should be the winner yet, so until then, lets all keep our fingers crossed!!! I was talking to Teresa last night and let me tell you, she really really wanted every single contestant to be in! She was literally begging me to let you all in...but well, we had no choice, or else if the contest runs till next year...i am sure all of you will be burnt out!!!

So here are Teresa's comments:

First, I loved the challenge this week. As a pattern paper designer, I know the thought and application that each of the contestants put into this weeks challenge. I was so impressed with each and every one of the girls. I am blown away with their talent. I could see several of the paper designs that would be highly sought out at stores worldwide. The thought of having to eliminate any one of them was not something I wanted to do. It breaks my heart to ever say that someone’s design is not good enough. To me, they are all so beautiful.

MEGAN A. ~ LAZY HAZY CRAZY DAY OF SUMMER
I was instantly drawn to her layout. I love the colors and how creative she was with the use of the sun and it’s rays. The journaling caught my eye. Also, I loved the circle photo in the middle of the sun. Stunning layout!

SHARMAINE KRUIJVER ~ THE PARK MAKES YOU HAPPY
I love the dots. I am a big dot fan. They are fun and whimsical. I also love the blue and color combination. I loved the fringe that was added on the bottom of the pattern paper. The layout is very HAPPY!!!!

JESSY CHRISTOPHER ~ SO VERY BEAUTIFUL
I was completely in awe at the various techniques used in the paper design. I love the colors and the mood that she created with the various mediums. The layout is simply beautiful.

ONE Lil' Idea in ONE Sentence

hmmm... I should think that's simple enough to start off our first mini challenge on this blog site.
and thanks to all our readers and supporters who have taken the trouble and time to email us on your interest to join in the FUN!

This year, Scrap-n-Crop.com has been fortunate to be invited to contribute in numerous World Environmental Day celebrations - the first of which was last weekend, and a few more lined-up for the rest of the month. And all our initial enquiries would go along this line: can you think of a single idea that you can do for the World Environmental Day?

So, here's what I thought. Let's flow along this line with our first challenge:

Can you identify ONE lil' idea that sums up what you can do for Mother Nature in 2008? And, oh yes, in ONE lil' sentence.

You many be wondering, what in the heck does this have to do with scrapbooking? Well, loads. We collect scraps. We recycle scraps. We use scraps. We beautify the world with scraps. We free the world from scraps ... we use scrap-n-crop!

Some simple rules to maintain some order, if you will!

Take some time to think about your own lil' idea for Mother Nature in 2008 and pen your lil' sentence in the 'comments' section below starting with the next sequential #. We will close this challenge at #50 (and please read through the ideas to avoid repetitions). You may submit up to a maximum of 3 ideas per person. The winner with the most creative yet pragmatic idea wins some RAKs.

Yes, yes, ONE of the reasons why I am so into scrapbooking is the lovely patterned papers designers keep coming up with! I am a Patterned Paper freak! So I thought, what an exciting challenge one of our team members came up with.

For this week, contestants are to create a LO/project using their very own Patterned Paper. Yes, you heard me right. You are to design the Patterned Paper!

And who knows, we might just unearth our very own "Rhonna Farrer" or "Amy Butler" right here!!!!

"I decided to make a little album mainly about what I wore in the 70's ... something that my kids can look at and laugh hysterically over when they are a bit older! :-) The journalling on the first page really says it all for me "My Mother dressed me funny"! I liked the transparency idea that Ali Edwards used on her Love Chipboard Book in the May 08 issue of Creating Keepsakes. I inserted transparencies randomly in my album though not every page and where I used words I painted on the other side to make the words stand out."

Journaling ~Cover: - Me in the 70's (the tag has my full name and date of birth on it)
Page 1: - A small collection of photos of myself during the 70's, highlighting great fashion sense and some special memories that I actually remember.
I look back on these photos and laugh (and sometimes shudder) at what I was wearing … I can't believe my Mother let me out of the house wearing some of these outfits! I wonder if my children will look back at their childhood photos and think the same as I do … "my Mother dressed me funny"!

Page 4: - Me giving Marmalade a good squeeze.
Page 5: - Grandma (name removed) and I at the beach.
Page 6: - Spot the dress tucked into my dungarees.

Page 8: - It was almost a tradition every year to go to the (name removed) Tulip Farm when the tulips were in flower – acres and acres of beautiful bright colour.
And here I am … showing off my petticoat, a loud spotty dress and those same striped socks again!
Page 9: - Catching caterpillars off the ragwort plants with my friend (name removed).It must have been trendy to wear striped socks a different colour to the rest of your clothing!

I thought about this long and hard. I just did not know what I was going to do. THEN!!! After some Googling and re-reading of the rules I came up with a fabulous idea!!! I can't wait to get started!!!

Sharmaine's thoughts on Challenge 3

Wow this challenge was hard! It was hard, not because of the lack of inspiration, but the MASSIVE overload it had on my creative juices! Yep, they were flowing and flowing and flowing! 3 days, 3 layouts and 3 projects later I was in a slump. Everything I had created just didn't feel 'right', yes I was happy with each creation but it just wasn't it… the colours weren't right or it just didn't say what I wanted to say. I felt uncreative and was ready to give up. But I used my thinking time, aka shower time, and another idea hit me. So I got down a dirty and finally came up with a page that I was happy with. One full of the journaling that had been floating around my head and one that screamed 70's. So I just want to say thank you for the creative fix and wish good luck to all the other contestants, looking forward to seeing all the work! Ok off to see what I can tie dye - hehehe - Peace, Sharmaine

its really amazing how challenges and contest like this really gets the creative juice out of each and everyone. When i was doing my work, i was really having a hard time looking for other materials to use! I if ever i find one, it doesnt fit the concept of my LO. I was about to give up the night i was making my page... but it made me stop and think--Why miss the opportunity? Not everyone was given this chance to share and compete. So I said to myself.."relax, take it slow.. and breathe." So i continued after another 30 minutes of pondering. I said to myself, "why not make the best out of it!" Enjoy the whole process, if i get in the next round, that double happiness. And if i get eliminated, at least i did my best to be able to come up with one entry.

So to everyone here! If incase you feel too much pressure or mojos or ideas isnt there... relax for a few minutes. And remember the reason why we scrap. to be able to share and express ourselves... Winning is just an icing on the cake! Goodluck!

I was quite nervous about my first challenge. But then I thought about it. All I can really do is stay true to my style and create a layout that I can be proud of. If it's what they're looking for, great! If not, at least I have something terrific for my scrapbook. Best of luck to everyone!!!

This second challenge was an interesting one, that's for sure! I enjoyed scrapping outside my comfort zone and had fun playing with my kid's craft materials and the contents of our recycling bin! Can't wait to see what next week holds for the contestants!

Whoa!! Challenge # 2 was not easy for me because I have to work with ALL the non-scrapbooking products on my LO!!

That's definitely something new to me. I was in a very panic-mode going through all the things in my house.

Every now & then I'll play 'I Spy' all by myself. LOL!!! It was a tough one but it was also a very fun challenge. I had my moments :)

Ever since I started this new addictive hobby, I find myself collecting all sorts of trinkets, ephemera of all kinds. Thinking, perhaps, one day, I can scrap them along with my photos...so much so, NOTHING is actually "rubbish" anymore!

I am thankful that I found the link to the contest through Michelle McGee's blog. I was shocked and grateful for making the list of 16 and I am looking forward to being inspired and challenged by the project.

I started scrapbooking in 2005 and have found that, with each page, I am evolving and stretching myself. I never thought of myself as creative and now there isn't many days where I can't find paint under my fingernails!

As a busy Mum of 4 I try to scrap the everyday things, trying to tell the story as I see it and quick scrapping works well for me! My style has changed so much from my first layout and I feel that I am still working towards finding my own groove. This is the first time I have taken part in such a contest and looking forward to seeing where it takes me. Wishing all the best to the other amazing scrappers who have made the list of 16.

On Friday my son was home sick from school so I took the opportunity to look through some magazines I have laying around. 99.9% of the mags I have are about scrapbooking /paper crafting. I didn't want to use those because I wanted to use an ad that was totally different from the scrapbooking norm. Luckily my step-mom had left and Everyday With Rachel Ray at my house and I found an awesome ad for the Texas State Travel Bureau. Pair that with a brand new niece and I think we have a winner!

As soon as I heard the challenge I was looking through a magazine. Luckily it didn’t take me long to choose an ad and plan a page. I knew just the right photos to use. When I heard who the celebrity judges are I got pretty nervous though! I feel like the pressure is definitely on! I wanted to give myself plenty of time, so I got to work the first chance I had. I am happy with how my page turned out. Even if I don't make it, I am proud of the work I did.

I'm very excited to be a part of this contest :-) :-) and I must confess to actually still being up when the 1st challenge was posted ... draw inspiration from an ad! Of course my brain was whirring, so I couldn't possibly go to bed then! I decided that looking for an ad in all my scrap & card magazines might be "cheating", so had to hunt for a magazine! Car magazines, watch magazine, airline magazines - big choice! Was quite surprised actually that I found 5 ads that really appealed ... then the hard part to narrow it down. In the end I couldn't choose between 2 of them, so decided to scrap both and then choose. By Friday I had photos printed and positioned for both LO's and was struggling with words and here it's Monday and I only have a couple of days left! *Gulp*

When I got to know that I'm one of the 16 finalists, I was so thrilled. I really couldn't believe that my paper-SB does justice too.

Simple because I've been a digital-SB scrapper since last November. Practically new to the both scrapbooking world, paper & digital.

I was definitely nervous when I saw the 1st challenge as I did not have the suitable AD!!! After searching around high & low for it,

I finally found one! It wasn't easy but I finally did it!! So, scrapper-friend... look out for mine! Hugs!

I was quite nervous about my first challenge. But then I thought about it. All I can really do is stay true to my style and create a layout that I can be proud of. If it's what they're looking for, great! If not, at least I have something terrific for my scrapbook. Best of luck to everyone!!!

Dalla's thoughts:
This is contest is really something that I needed to kick-off my passion for scrapbooking.
I've since love this craft 8 months ago, where I've started collecting scrapbooking items;
stamps, 12X12 papers, inks, stickers, ribbons...yadda, yadda, yadda, you know the works!

But I have not even started making any LO's. I am glad that I was chosen to enter this contest, where i could get exposure of how much I know about scrapbooking, learn from others about their layout; techniques used; inspirations derived from, range of seasoned judges comments on the field; to be inspired and of course last but not least; making new friends and acquaintances.

Just a little tip from us:

On top of giving us a list of materials used, whenever you submit your layouts/creations, it's good to add a little note/description to your entry so that the judges will understand your creations more. e.g.: about what made you decided to do what you did, why did you use the materials, etc.

It doesn't have to be a long paragraph.
Just something that you think will assist the judge in making their decisions better.

Congratulations to our 16 finalists!!! It has been so tough to choose the final 15, so we had 16 instead with 2 to be booted out this round. Our first challenge starts {now}

OK...here goes....

For the 1st Challenge, participants are required to draw inspiration from an advertisement in any magazine or newspaper for their layout. Your layout can be in either 12x12 or 8 1/2 x 11. A snapshot of your layout alongside the advertisement will be required.

Remember ALL ENTRIES will have to be mailed to contest.scrapncrop@gmail.com by midnight (GMT+8) on Tuesday 27th May. We will announce the winner the following day.

yes, the registration for Project Scrap-away is officially CLOSED.

We are pleased to announce that we have received an overwhelming response from many, many talented scrapbookers across the world.

Oh boy, it's going to be a tough call deciding who the 15 finalists are going to be, but ... it has to be done. The panel judges, along with celebrity judges will have a tough job in a few hours time. We will be announcing the 15 finalists tomorrow. So, please stay tuned.

Save this link! Bringing to you Project Scrap-away, inspired from the ever popular Project Runway show. If you are a fan, you should be familiar with the rules. If not, read on.

ELIGIBILITY:
This contest is open to residents all over the world. Employees, DTs and administrators or any other persons affliated to SnC will not be eligible to participate or win. Entries must be received by the times indicated during each challenge or you will be disqualified.

NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.

By entering this contest, participants are bound by and agree to these official Rules. All work / submissions to this contest remains the property of SnC.

HOW THE CONTEST WORKS:
This contest consists of 12 individual weekly challenges and 1 final GRAND challenge. For each challenge, participants will be given 5 days to complete their work. Each week, the entry with the lowest score will be eliminated. The challenge winner wins a RAK from our sponsors and a voucher from SnC.

We welcome everyone interested to join by submitting their favourite work from now until May 18.

All submissions will be published here. on this blog.

We will announce the final 15 contestants on May 20 and Challenge 1 will begin on Thursday, May 22.

Weekly challenges will be announced every Thursday and participants must send in their completed works by Tuesday, midnight. We will announce weekly winners the following day. All time pertaining to datelines will be in GMT +8.

These 15 participants will be narrowed down to 3 finalists who will show their own line of projects from the entire competition including the grand challenge on our website on Week 13 of the competition. For the final challenge, participants will be given 2 weeks to complete their project.

The final winner will be judged by the industry's best and will walk away with scrapbook products from our generous sponsors. The judges decision is final in relation to every aspect of the competition and no correspondence will be entertained. The prizes are not transferable or exchangeable and cannot be taken as cash.

All work produced for this contest remains the property of SnC. Works submitted must be original and should not have been previously submitted for other contests or galleries. Digital work will be disqualified.
