Okay, I'll start us off...
#1. Use my scrap page leftovers to make some nice cards.
thank you Charissa...seems everyone here is sooo shy!!!!
#2. Recycle old computer reports into kids sketchpad/doodle-book.
#3. Use scrap materials packaging to alter into reusable containers or decors :)
#4. Incorporate recycled non-scrapbooking materials into layouts, by spraying with archival mist, for more texture
Well, if anyone checks out the tags on some of your kids clothing, they make perfect tags for tags. or embellishments for pages.
Some are really quite interesting. I have a couple that are shaped like a record, and I have lots of ideas for them. Reuse, instead of refuse, I say.
oh judy thats a splendid idea....and anon i now know what to do with computer reports! eebing...i am practising what you are doing, FANTASTIC!
#6. use the plastic envelopes used to wrap our PP/CS when we buy them to make our own page protectors and PP/CS storage holders. :)
#7. Bring your own shopping bag when you visit your favourite scrapbooking store for new supplies
i recently cut off buttons from a pair of capris that had long since seen better days. before i knew it i had cut off every beltloop ,pocket and the cutest tabs that will all be used on scrapping pages. so, before discarding clothes look at them from your scrappin perspective.
bimboony, i shall remember not to toss those plastic envies....eebing, how do you come up with so many ideas?
mrs cheryl, thats so cool....you must show us what you did to those odds and ends from the capris!
I have a whole pile of empty clear stamp pkgs. I just took out the stamps, put them in a clear sleeve in a ring binder, and am going to alter them for mini memory albums. I started throwing them out, and then discovered that they clip quite nicely back together.
These are the type that are heavier clear plastic and have neat shapes with some of the clear stamps in them. Great for making recyle gifts at kids birthday parties. I have a portable printer, take that, and they have an instant gift after they decorate the pkg. and the paper and add their own picture with the party girl.
#11 Old board books that the kids have pulled apart, ripped... Reuse them to make a mini album
#12 revamp shoe boxes and bicuit tins by pasting scraps of pps and stick on embelishes :)
#13 Advertisement in magazines like I.D. makes for good patterned paper. I just spray with archival mist and I can start making LO on it.
#16. Before u want to print something out... think twice if you really need to print it out OR just read it digitally.
#17. When printing documents for reference or normal usage if possible print 2page/sheet on both sides so u use 1 pc of paper instead of 4.
#18. Chinese new year... most of us will get alot of red packets... open them nicely and u can reuse them to giveaway next year or use it for handicraft.
#19. I normal keep the envelops big and small for letters or packages that I receive and reuse them again until they are damage.
#20. Every year, my whole family takes time to clean up our wardrobe and rid off any unwanted clothing. They will be either donate to the needy, use as rags (old -Ts), my sis uses the fancy wants to make doll clothing.
#21. When unwrapping presents, do it properly so u can reuse the present wrappers for wrapping books or files or some smaller presents.
Do carry your own fork & spoon or chopstick if you go to party, pinic to avoid using disposable ones.
Always leave a few eco-bag in your car, u never know when you will go for grocery replenishment.
#23 Reuse milk tin plastic covers as coasters
I recycle christmas cards every year I either use parts of them on new cards or use them as gift tags!
I also reuse handmade cards I get, simply cover up the old well wishes with my own new!
Do not leave electrical appliances on standby overnight, esp the TV, the DVD player and that Astro decoder. Shut them down at source and reduce global warming.
The next number is #27 . Please start with "#27" before you type in your suggestions. Thanks
First time commenting..
#27 - Do not waste, scrap instead!
#28 - Dear Earth, please forgive me, I promise I'll recycle!
#29 - I treat the environment just like I treat my children - with lots of love.
#30 - Kill you shopping habit.dont buy if u already had one.i.e. if u want to buy new thing, think where u gonna put the old one(change place, give people etc) if it's too old then ...put in recycle bin. so u no more longer collect rubbish in ur house
#31 I will not buy any more organizational supplies until I am sure that there is nothing in my house that can do the job just as well!
#32 To scrap in daylight by the window to save electricity.
#33 To plan the colours I paint with so that I can reuse and recycle the water to wash off the excess paint on my brushes.
#34 To support and purchase bulk buy items or lose items that do not come in excessive fancy packaging.
#34 Be content with what you have and care enough to share all you have, whether materialistic or precious memories, or skills.
#36 Sorry miss-number on #35
Please can you consider removing #14 comment which is very offensive and also belies the intent when referenced to the user name.
#36 Recycle baby food jars to store embellishments in, or a sweet jar for your scrap desk! Decorate with offcuts to "tart" them up. They also make nice gifts ... decorate and fill with embellishments for a scrappy friend :-)
#37 pick and compile your scraps and turn them info gift boxes as gifts instead of buying presents.
#38 Scrap = recycling= saving the earth with my own capacity = making someone happy with the results
#38 use different tea, without milk, and coffee granules to make the best antiqued papers without the need of specialist ink.
#39 use natural cleaners such as sugar, salt, lemons and vinegar to clean hands, work tops and equipment whenever possible.
okay, a fun one not to be taken seriously! Use this as the srapped no.14 comment! I woke up in the night with this one! Give your pet hamster your paper & card stock to chew for a deckle-edge effect. Keeps the hammy happy and gets little creatures involved in scrapping too.....!
no 41 is the next number Sorry, I can't believe I did it again....
Please start the next comment with # 39 since 2 comments were deleted and there has been some mixed up in numberings...
so, the NEXT COMMENT IS #39.
thanks
#39 Scrap on BOTH sides of the cardstock!
#40 Do not throw away old furniture, frames, biscuit tins, suitcases ...etc. Distress them. Dress them up!
judy, sharmain, deedah, baby M, fantastic ideas! flutterings, terribly sorry i didnt see #14 coming....we have deleted the comment and gave a shelling to the contributor! And by the way, love your hamster idea for patterned papers!!!! saves buying another special scissors!
mervyn, check out how Datin Catherine used the CNY wrappers on our blog, didgeridoo, i am not alone in keeping wrappers!!!, r- yes, i'll use my own bags and wendy...brilliant take on reusing greeting cards!
john, i've got to shut down by decoder from not on, wan - yes Scrap those Scraps!, g75 - difficult to curb shopping habits but will sure try, courtney - well said, judysanders - planning is the key huh!, wishful thinking - i do that to my baby jars too!!!
yes mei-mei, more ideas for using scraps, flutterings - u do have plenty ideas, natural dyes and cleaners oh wow, fancytis - yup i scrap on both sides too and shabby chic - hmmm i now know how you got your name!!!
#41 When you buy go out to buy takeaway food home, always bring your own reusable container to reduce the use of plastic and polystyrene packaging. You'll also be surprised that the food vendor may give you a bigger portion. :)
#42 When possible, always consume local fruits. Imported fruits have to be shipped in, burning fuel that causes global warming.
sorry didn't put a number before my post...
#43...we walk a lot in local trails and parks and always take a bag with us to pick up garbage. That way it's out of the animal's habitat, it doesn't leach anything into the soil and it teaches our kids to take care of the earth where they can.
This is my third suggestion.
#44 I have a habit of always looking down when i am walking and sometimes i do picked up unusual stuff that i use for my projects but till now no one suspected where i got them so next time you should always check out the road in case you find something interesting that's rubbish to others but gem to you.
p/s: you might even find money (i did once)
#45 Melt old candles into an aluminum can, stick candle wick in the middle and peel off the can when the candle is dried, and you'll get a multicolored funky candle.
#46 Melt colorful old crayons together and use cookie cutters to make fun shapes & use it for your scrapbook projects.
#47 Use expired credit cards to flatten stickers to surfaces.
